This past weekend saw gymnasts from across the Atlantic provinces, Ontario and Quebec competing in the 2015 Eastern Canadian Gymnastics and Trampoline Championships at the Université de Moncton CEPS fieldhouse. Fredericton area Team NB athletes that received podium awards for their performances were: (left to right) Georgia Mackay, Lily Thompson, James Davis, Noah McCoy, Lora Harter and Grant Melanson. All gymnasts train and compete out of Kingswood Gymnastics.
In Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, Lora Harter won 2nd place All-Around in the National Novice category. Competing against 7 other competitors from Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and Quebec on all apparatus, Harter won gold on Uneven Bars. In Trampoline events, Lily Thompson bounced her way to 1st in Women’s Synchro Level 1 Under 12 years, while teammates Grant Melanson (Level 1 Under 12) and Noah McCoy (Level 4) finished 3rd in Men’s Synchro. Georgia Mackay along with Thompson helped secure a team bronze medal in Women’s Tumbling, while James Davis and Melanson won 3rd place in the team Double Mini-Trampoline competition in the Men’s Level 1 Under 12 years category.
Other notable results for Fredericton area gymnasts included 4th place apparatus finishes by Maggie Mae Nason (National Open) on the Floor Exercise, Olivia Thompson (CPN Aspire) on the Uneven Bars and Andrew Polegato in the Level 4 Individual Trampoline category. Avery Earle (CPN Aspire) was 5th on both Vault and the Uneven Bars.
The Canadian Artistic Gymnastics Championships take place May 26-31 in Gatineau, Quebec where Kaitie Shea, Maggie Mae Nason, Lora Harter and Caleb Darrow, all from Kingswood, will compete against Canada’s best artistic gymnasts.
