Kingswood Gymnasts represent Fredericton at 2015 Atlantic Gymnastics Championships

This past weekend saw athletes from across the Atlantic provinces competing in the 2015 Atlantic Canadian Gymnastics Championships at the Saint John Trade and Convention Centre. Leading the way with All-Around podium performances for Team NB were Fredericton area gymnasts Alexandru Tita and William Carmichael (coach: Trip Lewis), Malik Martin (coach: Shane Codrington) and Grace Lightbody, Olivia Thompson and Avery Earle (coaches: Debbie Calvin and Olga Harter). All gymnasts train and compete out of Kingswood Gymnastics.

In the Women’s CPN Aspire category, Earle and Thompson were 2nd and 3rd All-Around respectively, with Earle winning top honours on Vault as Atlantic Champion. Grace Lightbody was 3rd All-Around in the Women’s Tyro 8 category. Malik Martin, in the Men’s Level 3 Under 13 years category, was 2nd All-Around securing first place on the Parallel Bars. In the Men’s Level 1 Under 10 years category, William Carmichael finished in 3rd place All-Around while teammate Alexandru Tita was All-Around Champion in the category, taking first place on Floor, Pommel Horse, Rings and Parallel Bars and scored the highest combined score out of all male competitors across all categories. Tita and Carmichael, along with Kingswood teammates Jonathan Lambropoulos and Davis Bragdon (not pictured), brought home the Level 1 Under 10 years Team award.

The Eastern Canadian Gymnastics and Trampoline Championships, with competitors from across Atlantic Canada, Ontario and Quebec, take place May 8-10 in Moncton at the Université de Moncton CEPS fieldhouse.
